Are humans the cause of Global Warming?

The latest and greatest topic sparking unending debates and a plethora of misinformation on an international level is that of global warming. Everyone and their mom has an opinion and no one seems to get the point.

People just love pointing out melting ice caps, calving glaciers and record high temperatures. Yet another example of arrogant people thinking their time on this earth is relevant and heavily impacts their environment. The frustrating part is that they are right... about a few things.

Our earth is warming, sea levels are rising and there is no shortage of glacial melting. Where most of these advocates of human caused global warming tend to veer off track relates to causation (humans) and metrics of measurement (CO2 levels, historical reach, etc.) Most of the frightening events surrounding this debate are all results of the cyclical nature of our earth, (amongst many other naturally occurring phenomena,) not because we used too much hairspray or drove our car to the store instead of taking the bike.

A little evidence:

  1. Global temperature averages have fallen over the last 12 years.

  2. There is "no real scientific proof" that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from man's activity.

  3. Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022% of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history.

  4. Warmer periods of the Earth's history came around 800 years before rises in CO2 levels.
After World War II, there was a huge surge in recorded CO2 emissions, but global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940.

  5. Throughout the Earth's history, temperatures have often been warmer than now and CO2 levels have often been higher--more than ten times as high.

  6. Significant changes in climate have continually occurred throughout geologic time.

  7. The 0.7° Celsius increase in the average global temperature over the last hundred years is entirely consistent with well-established, long-term, natural climate trends.

  8. Just 60 scientists and favorable reviewers, not the 4,000 usually cited, drive the IPCC theory.

  9. Leaked e-mails from British climate scientists--in a scandal known as "Climategate"--suggest that data have been manipulated to exaggerate global warming.

  10. A large body of scientific research suggests that the sun is responsible for the greater share of climate change during the past hundred years.

  1. I agree with your most of your bullets, except for one or two. I like most people aren't well educated in the realm of Global Warming. I will be the first to admit that. Yet, it seems that you are. My challenge is to your second bullet. You believe man has no room for blame to the increased levels of CO2, which leads to Green house gases, and directly reflects to global warming? I feel we have a slick claim to responsibility, but not to the extent that the tree huggers beleive. I reference the "Hockey stick" gragh. Mr. Gore, the great scientist he is, believes we are the major contributor to increase CO2 levels that are present in ice core data. I also believe Global warming/climate change to be effect of natural occurrences within and around the earth's existence. With that being said, how does somebody such as myself, look at the ice core data charts, aka "Hockey Stick" graph and argue the data? I only ask this because this is the only evidence I can't argue around from what the opposite side argues.

  2. I completely agree with your position on Global warming, man kind is not responsible for the slight increase and current decrease we are experiencing in temperatures around the globe. What I do not understand however, is why so many people refuse to accept the fact that these temperature fluctuations are indeed natural. In my opinion this is a wonderful news, not because it minimizes my responsibility, but because it is genuinely GOOD news. I believe we as humans have become spoiled little drama queens, who scream and throw a fit if we are not in control of absolutely everything. we can not bring ourselves to admit that the sun, a flaming ball of fire “is responsible for the greater share of climate change during the past hundred years” than human carbon dioxide emissions. if this were an issue of scientific facts we would believe the other 4,000 scientists usually cited, but sadly however this is an egotistical that can only be resolved with a big dose of humility.

  3. If only people were smart enough to actually research things, instead of assuming the TV is telling everything. Well, what can you expect, when governmental laws and regulations make Darwinism a thing of the past? Such is the life of the modern man.

  4. I feel that this is a great way to start out your side of the debate on global warming. I too am going with the idea that there is a lot of misinformation surrounding us on this critical topic. You are correct about that a lot of people think they know what they are talking about on the subject. People point out all of the negative topics that seem to be occurring but what about the topics that can save us from global warming. The natural occurring phenomena of the earth is my feelings exactly. The earth has been going through a state of change since the beginning of time. And as I recall I don’t think George Washington was waking up every morning and taking his Tahoe to the White House. If the bullets that you present are actual information than a lot of people are painfully mistaken. If we could just get more facts than fiction more people would be able to sleep at night instead of being completely manipulated. With the facts on man-made carbon dioxide and warm periods of the Earth being dated back as far as 800 years I have no other way but to believe you.
